5G NR Power-Amplifiers

5G NR Power Amplifiers for n77, n78 and n79

5G NR power amplifiers in this group are multi-carrier amplifiers for the mid-band 5G spectrum between 3.3 GHz and 5 GHz. For example, they serve as power stages in 5G repeaters, distributed antenna systems and radio equipment, where wide signal bandwidths and high peak to average power ratios demand excellent linearity.

Models in this group

  • An n77 amplifier for 3.3 to 3.7 GHz
  • An n78 amplifier for 3.7 to 4.1 GHz
  • A wideband n77/n78 amplifier for 3.3 to 4.2 GHz, designed for LTE-Advanced and 5G NR TDD radio systems
  • An n79 amplifier for 4.4 to 5 GHz
  • A 617 to 821 MHz high-efficiency amplifier rated at 200 W for low band 4G and 5G deployments

Each datasheet lists the output power rating, which ranges from 10 W to 20 W for the mid-band models. In addition, several of these models target multi-channel LTE and 5G applications.

Linearity and bandwidth in 5G

5G NR carriers can be much wider than LTE carriers. Therefore, an amplifier must remain linear across a wider instantaneous bandwidth. Key parameters to compare are ACLR, EVM, gain flatness, efficiency and TDD switching behaviour. In addition, digital pre-distortion (DPD) can improve linearity, depending on the amplifier and the system design. Efficiency also matters, because 5G radio units often operate in compact enclosures where heat must be managed carefully.

Choosing between models

First, start with the 3GPP band used in your network: n77, n78 or n79. Then select the output power that the host equipment needs, and finally confirm the supported signal bandwidth. For LTE bands, see our LTE power amplifiers. For special frequency ranges, see wideband RF amplifiers.
