The EMTS Telecom Services Ltd. F/O DAS solution provides an affordable solution for multi-operator 5G indoor signal coverage problems for multi-operator deployment. The Master Unit (MU) is based on POI, Attenuator box, and Fiber Conversion Box Unit (FCB). One Master Unit (MU) is connected to 2 Extension Units (EU). Each EU is connected to 8 Fiber Remote Units (FRU) via fiber optic cables. The gNB RF signals of all 4 operators are fed to the 5G POI. The POI combines all 4 operators into 4 MIMO streams. The combined RF signal is attenuated using an attenuator box and fed into the FCB. The MU converts the RF signal to an optical signal, 1 signal per MIMO stream. The optical signal is connected to the Extension Unit (EU) through F/O cables. One MU supports 2 EU. The EU splits the optical signal from the MU into 8 optical signals for the fiber Remote Unit (RU) via fiber optic cable. The fiber RU will reconvert the optical signal into an RF signal and provide the signal to the areas where network coverage is inadequate. The mobile signal is also amplified and retransmitted to the BTS via the opposite direction. The EMTS 5G Fiber Optic Repeater system is designed to support MIMO 4X4 topology. The EMTS Telecom Services 5G DAS solutions boost network performance to stay ahead of the fast-moving 5G multi-operator deployments & get a fast ROI simultaneously.

5G Fiber DAS for n78 Indoor Coverage

5G fiber DAS brings mid-band 5G NR into large buildings by distributing the signal over optical fiber to remote units close to users. This group contains a complete n78 TDD system built from three unit types. All of them support 4×4 MIMO, so operators can deliver the capacity that 5G users expect indoors.

System components

  • Master unit (MU): installed at the headend, it connects to the signal source and converts RF to optical
  • Extension unit (EU): extends the optical distribution to additional zones or floors
  • Remote unit (RU): installed in the coverage area, it converts the optical signal back to RF and feeds the antennas

According to the datasheets, the system is intended as an affordable solution for multi-operator 5G indoor coverage. Typically, the master unit is fed by operators’ base stations combined through a point of interface module.

Why fiber for 5G indoors

At 3.5 GHz, however, coaxial cable loss grows quickly with distance. Fiber, in contrast, keeps loss low over long runs, so remote units can be placed exactly where coverage is needed. As a result, the design stays scalable for venues with many floors. In addition, 4×4 MIMO uses four parallel signal paths, which raises throughput compared with single path distribution, provided the devices and network support it.

Planning information

  • Floor plans and target coverage areas
  • Number of operators and their n78 carriers
  • Signal source and POI requirements
  • Fiber routes between headend and remote locations
  • Power, mounting and monitoring needs

On the other hand, for smaller areas with a good outdoor signal, 5G NR repeaters may be enough. See our comparison Fiber DAS vs. RF Repeaters, browse the cellular fiber DAS systems, or return to all 5G coverage solutions.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 5G fiber DAS support other bands?

At present, the units in this group serve n78 TDD. For other bands, see the cellular fiber DAS range or contact us about available configurations.

Can the system grow after installation?

Extension units are designed to extend the optical distribution to additional zones. Even so, confirm the maximum number of units per master unit in the datasheet.
